Leather can be embossed with a stamping tool and hammer to create indentations that, as a whole, result in a pattern or image. Not every type of leather can be hallmarked. This process can only be used on leather that is vegetable-tanned and otherwise untreated.
Above all, these free forms are very time-consuming, as the pattern is designed, sketched out on the leather, incised and, in laborious manual work, punched into the leather with various stamps and decorated with structured irons.
